Africa has become the new frontier for Ruby with deposits in
Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan and Somaliland. We sources
the finest pieces direct from mines in all these countries, particularly the
Montepuez mine in Mozambique. This deposit is believed to be the most
significant new Ruby deposit in the world...
Fine African Ruby for Sale - We have had a great deal of experience with Ruby, having owned and operated a Ruby mine in the Taita area of Kenya in the 1980’s. We are still very closely linked to most of the mines in the region and interact with the miners regularly.
Mozambique Ruby - We work closely with Gemfields who own and operate the Montepuez Ruby mine in Mozambique. This deposit is believed to be the most significant new Ruby deposit in the world. The mine produces some very fine colors with many commanding the “pigeon’s blood red” of Burmese deposits. This new deposit has presented an opportunity to buy very fine Ruby of Burmese pedigree at a much lower price point. This will likely change as Mozambique Ruby carries its own cachet these days.
Kenya Ruby - Kenya has been producing Ruby for decades. Most of the production hails from Taita, close to Tsavo where Tsavorite is mined. The vast majority is Cabochon quality with some super colors. The other significant deposit is to be found in Baringo where a recently discovered alluvial deposit yields up some beautiful pieces with a pinkish modifier.
Tanzania Ruby - Tanzania’s Longido deposit has been a stalwart in the Ruby market for decades. A more recently discovered deposit in Winza has yielded up some of the world’s finest Rubies in recent years, although appears to be largely mined out now. Tanzania continues to produce some very fine stones, albeit sporadically.
